Professional Profile

Prior to her retirement at the end of April 2006, in mid-July 2004, Kathy was appointed to the position of Chief Nursing Officer, NSW. Her previous position was Director, Integrated Health Care Services & Area Director of Nursing in the Northern Sydney Area Health Service. This Area Services a population of approximately 752,000 and employs 10,000 full time equivalent staff across six hospitals and community services.

Kathy has been at the forefront of significant change in Health, including having responsibility for the development, implementation and integration of the Area's Community Health Strategic Plan and for the integration of patient flow and capacity management activities across the acute and community sectors.

Kathy was previously the Director of Nursing of Royal North Shore Hospital. Kathy's clinical experience has been in operating rooms, midwifery and cardio-thoracic intensive care and nursing education.

Kathy's interests are in organisational change, culture, leadership and strategic workforce development and management.

Honours/Credentials/Appointments

Kathy is a Registered Nurse and a Midwife she holds a Diploma in Nursing Education, Bachelor Health Administration, Masters Educational Administration. Kathy was selected as one of five finalists out of 500 applicants in the Shell Corporate Government Award in the Telstra Business Woman of the Year 2000. And in 2003 was awarded a scholarship to participate in the Johnson and Johnson Wharton Fellows Program for Nursing Executive Leaders at the University of Philadelphia. Kathy until her recent appointment as Chief Nursing Officer, New South Wales Health was President of the College of Nursing (Incorporating The New South Wales College of Nursing) Kathy has been appointed to the Board of the Clinical Excellence Commission. Following the restructure of the NSW Health Services Kathy has also been appointed to the following Acute Care, Sustainable Access, Maternal and Perinatal High Priority Taskforces.
