ABOUT HACC REGIONAL TRAINING

The Eastern Metropolitan Region (EMR) Home and Community Care (HACC) Regional Training Calendar offers a mix of nationally recognised programs for which participants will be expected to undertake assessments to receive a Statement of Attainment, and a range of professional development opportunities for participants wanting to update or renew their skills and knowledge in relation to a particular area of learning.

As the EMR aims to move towards an appropriately qualified workforce, and to better align all learning opportunities with the National Training Framework (NTF), all programs have been mapped to a relevant National Unit of Competency or component thereof.

This means, that participants who enter into a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/Current Competency (RCC) process in the future will be able to better identify evidence of learning undertaken.

Eligibility for HACC Regional Training Courses

All EMR HACC funded organisations and pension level Supported Residential Services in EMR are eligible to apply for their staff and volunteers to attend the training advertised in this Calendar.  Some of the programs are targeted at specific groupings to maximise relevance. Please check the suitability of each program prior to application.

Participation in HACC Regional Training is free

How to Apply to Participate in a Training Program

It is preferred that applications for training are made online using the link in the Information & Registration section of the training calendar.   Simply double click on the link (you will need to be logged onto the Internet) to access and submit the application online.  When your application is submitted, you will receive a reference number to confirm that your application has been lodged.  Alternatively you can print the application form and fax it to the relevant contact in the Contact and Registration section of the Training Calendar.

If you need assistance making an application online, please contact Roman Skowron on 9843 1718, or Marilyn Evans on 9843 1720.

Cancellation Policy

Please let the training provider know ASAP if you or your staff are unable to attend a HACC training program for which they have been registered.

A non-attendance policy has been put in place to maximise opportunities for HACC staff to access subsidized training programs in the Region. Most programs have a waiting list. When the trainer receives sufficient notice they are able to offer a place to somebody else on the waiting list.

Should a HACC staff member, registered to attend a training program, become unavailable to attend the training program, it is requested that 48 HOURS NOTICE, of inability to attend, be provided to the relevant course training provider.

Where this period of notice is not given, the service provider, for whom the non-attending staff member works, will not receive priority for nominations received for future programs being offered.

Making the most of EMR HACC Training

Participating in a training program is more than just attending a workshop or activity on a scheduled day. To truly gain benefit, it requires commitment from the attendee and his/her line manager and organisation.

Before the Program

  • Read the program details on the EMR HACC Training Calendar or flyer carefully as this provides key information about the program

  • Identify programs that include content to match your learning and development needs now, or into the future

  • Consider whether you fit the advertised target group; is the date, time and venue accessible; and are you able to meet any prerequisites and assessment requirements

  • Speak with your line manager to discuss what you expect to get out of the learning activity

  • Consider how you will apply your learning back in the workplace

  • Document your personal learning objectives and expected outcomes in a personal learning action plan
 On the day of Training

  • Arrive on time, turn off your phone and leave the pressures of work at the workplace

  • Be open to explore new ideas, concepts and practices

  • Seek clarification and ask questions to better understand how the learning applies to your work practice

  • Participate in discussions, case studies and role plays

  • Use breaks to meet and network with participants from other organisations

  • Take time to complete the program?s Participant Evaluation form
 After the Program

  • Complete your personal learning action plan

  • Implement the action plan and enlist the support of your line manager

  • Look for opportunities to apply, practice and reinforce your learning

  • Ask for feedback from your team leader, peers and colleagues who are able to observe you demonstrating and applying new skills and knowledge in the workplace

  • Share your learning with colleagues

HACC organisations that model good practice in quality improvement around learning and development will support you by:

  • Holding a debriefing/coaching session on your return to work to discuss, agree and help to modify strategies for the personal learning action plan

  • Reviewing the progress of learning implementation regularly

  • Providing ongoing, and practical, support to the participant
 Your Training Feedback

Evaluation is an essential part of education and training programs for both the learner and the training provider.

For the learner, evaluation provides an opportunity to reflect on the learning activities undertaken, raises personal awareness of strengths; and enables the identification of actions to be taken to improve performance. Additionally, evaluation empowers the learner to influence future learning activities.

For EMR HACC Training Coordination participant evaluation (feedback) enables us to assess the participant?s reaction to the learning experience and ultimately, the effectiveness of the training offered.

So, tell us how we are doing and what we can do better. Your comments can make a difference in the programs and events that are offered, how they are designed, who runs them and how often they run.

A Participant Evaluation is provided at the end of each training event and we ask that you take the time to complete it to let us know what you think.

Additionally, we are happy to hear from you to discuss your learning experience and to receive ideas and contributions to inform future learning activities.

Please contact  Roman Skowron on 9843 1718
or Marilyn Evans on 98431720 to discuss your
training feedback
