Planning and delivering culturally appropriate human services

The Cultural diversity guide has been prepared by the Department of Human Services and endorsed by the four portfolio Ministers.

Below in the downloads section of this page you can download a electronic copy of the Cultural diversity guide. It is also available on the Department of Human Services website and accessible through the Funded Agency Channel.

The delivery of culturally responsive, equitable services is already a core quality expectation of department programs and funded agencies.

The purpose of the guide is to assist departmental programs and agencies by:

• Supporting the human services system to meet its obligations under Whole-of-Government planning and reporting requirements;
• Identifying a range of available strategies to improve cultural responsiveness and levers to effect cultural change, recognizing that no single strategy suits every program and agency and there are many different pathways to equitable, high quality service provision;
• Illustrating the different strategies and levers with examples of good multicultural practice that already occurs across the human services system;
• Providing guidance on additional resources and supports for programs and agencies in managing for diversity.
