Each year the Department of Human Services and agencies consume over 5,000,000,000 litres (5 Gigalitres) of water in the delivery of essential health services.
To ensure a sustainable water supply, the Victorian Government has set targets of reducing water consumption in the Melbourne metropolitan area by 15 per cent and recycling 20 per cent of wastewater by 2010.
