New services for the bereaved

23 April 2013 The Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund would like to announce that the Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement (ACGB) and EACH have been engaged by VBAF to deliver a range of new support services for those who lost loved ones in the February 2009 bushfires.

Tertiary and TAFE students who were directly affected by the 2009 Victorian bushfires can now apply for financial assistance to continue their undergraduate tertiary or vocational education and training studies under the latest round of the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund (VBAF) Scholarship Program.


Additional counselling and wellness vouchers now available for 2009 bushfire survivors

Survivors of the 2009 Victorian bushfires can now access additional vouchers for two psychosocial programs providing psychological counselling and allied health services.


Additional housing support available for 2009 bushfire survivors

22 August 2011 Survivors of the 2009 Victorian Bushfires will be eligible for additional assistance from the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund to help them finalise the rebuilding of their homes.

Bushfire financial hardship and permanent accommodation gifts still available

18 March 2011 The Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund (VBAF) is calling for people who lost their permanent residence in the 2009 bushfires to consider applying for assistance from the Fund if they are not yet in permanent accommodation and are experiencing financial difficulty.

Funding Package to Help Knock Down Rehousing Barriers

Women Gathering After the Fires Program

20 January 2010 During 2010, groups of women throughout bushfire affected communities will come together to befriend, support and encourage one another as they recover and rebuild. Women are encouraged to form a new group or support an existing group.

Financial Support Still Available for Bushfire Affected People

11 December 2009 Applications for most of the Appeal Funds 26 financial support packages for individuals close on 31 December, 2009. People who are unable to apply by that date, or who require additional time, will have their applications considered on compassionate grounds on a case-by-case basis.

24 November 2009 The 2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission Interim Report No. 2 – Priorities for Building in Bushfire-Prone Areas was provided to the government by the commission on Tuesday 24 November 2009.

Appeal Fund Contributes to the Statewide Reconstruction Plan

20 October 2009 The Rebuilding Together plan sets out the rebuilding priorities for bushfire-affected communities. The Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund is proud to be able to contribute $56 million to the statewide reconstruction effort on behalf of its donors.

Kerry Murphy appointed to Bushfire Appeal Fund Panel

1 October 2009 The Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund is pleased to announce that Country Fire Authority (CFA) chair Kerry Murphy has been appointed to the Fund's advisory panel, replacing Pat McNamara who has now taken on the role of chair following the stepping down of former chair John Landy.

Closing Dates for Emergency Payments

16 September 2009 Bushfire-affected individuals and communities have moved from the emergency to recovery phase. To ensure it continues to meet support people who need it the most, the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund has reviewed some of its initial payments to decide if they are still needed.

25 August 2009 The 2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission Interim Report was tabled in Parliament on Monday 17 August 2009. The Commission's Interim Report and Executive Summary are available from the Royal Commission Website.

$1 Million for Winter Community Events

4 June 2009 Bushfire-affected communities will share in $1 million from the Bushfire Appeal Fund, to support local community winter events.

Relief Payment for Local Government

7 April 2009 Bushfire-affected councils will share in $9 million from the Victorian Bushfire Relief Fund, to deliver disaster-related services that directly benefit residents. 

Exceptional Hardship Support Grants Announced

27 March 2009 Following the establishment of the recent Rebuilding and Recovery Grant and the initial Emergency Relief Grants, the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund Advisory Panel has now announced the availability of a new grant.

Bushfire Appeal Funds To Help Communities Rebuild

More than $130 million in donations to the Bushfire Appeal Fund will be distributed to people whose houses were destroyed or partially destroyed by this year’s devastating bushfires, the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund Advisory Panel Chair John Landy and the Premier John Brumby announced today.
