Workshop: Human factors - barriers and opportunities for application in clinical practice

This workshop provides a practical overview for health professionals to understand the role of “human factors” in understanding and improving patient safety. It describes the different fields in human factors, what each field offers and how this knowledge should be utilised.

The workshop will debate the opportunities and challenges of integrating human factors into the healthcare context, specifically examining when and how human factors can be integrated into safety strategies and practice. The learning methods are interactive small group study with the use of specific healthcare examples to develop key concepts and principles in action.

Who should attend: All health professionals: clinicians, executives and safety & quality managers. The workshop explains the principles of human factors in plain language and explores the potential and pitfalls for its practical application for patient safety.

Date: 9.30am to 4.30pm, Thursday 3 December 2009.
Venue: Dept of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Seminar Room 315, 3rd Floor, Burnet Tower, 89 Commercial Road, Melbourne.
Cost: $180 per person (incl. of GST).
