Seminar: Addressing health inequalities

Date published: 2009-10-09 14:39:07

Health inequalities good practice workshop, 12.30pm to 1pm

Principles of good practice outlined in Fairer Health include planning for impact, a multi-sector approach, community-owned practice and ways to rethink inclusion that connect to the wider causes of health. This workshop provides an overview of what the principles mean in a practical sense and includes examples of how the concepts can be incorporated into health promotion work. Useful articles and resources will be provided, including information about the good practice health inequalities training that is available through VicHealth.

Presenter: Clodagh Walsh, Principal Policy Analyst, Social Policy Branch.
Lead Agency: Department of Health (formerly Department of Human Services).

Transport connections: Northern Mallee Primary Care Partnership, 1pm to 1.30pm

Northern Mallee Transport Connections is the largest of the 32 projects currently active in rural and regional Victoria. The outer lying areas are disadvantaged by irregular or non-existent transport to other towns. Access to specialist services is provided by car pooling, infrequent HACC vehicles if the person is eligible or affected by infrequent and badly timed buses which necessitate an overnight stay.

Presenter: Tressna Martin, Transport Connections Project Officer.
Lead agency: Northern Mallee Primary Care Partnership.
Audience: Government representatives and agencies interested, or engaged in, health promotion.

Why would I attend?
  • to develop a greater understanding of health promotion and how it improves the health and wellbeing of Victorians (particularly disadvantaged and hard to reach populations)
  • to discover the impacts achieved through investment in Community and Women’s Health and Primary Care Partnerships health promotion work
  • to gain knowledge about primary and secondary prevention as well as disease management and tertiary prevention.

Date: Thursday 22 October 2009.
Venue: Conference Facility, Level 1, Room 2, 50 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne (back building). See map for more details.

Register online or RSVP to Katie Larking.
