Release of the Community Health Priority Tools

Date published: 2009-11-05 14:04:01

In 2008 the Branch commissioned Australian Healthcare Associates to evaluate the pilot of the community health demand management priority tools.

These tools were developed as part of Towards a demand management framework for community health services published in January 2008. The tools included:

  • a generic priority tool
  • seven clinical priority tools
  • the Dental Emergency Demand Management System.

The evaluators concluded that there was high acceptability of the tools and that there was no barrier to a state-wide rollout, subject to a few changes to specific items.

As a result of the evaluation, the department updated the priority tools and is requiring their use for the community and dental health programs and encouraging their use across all services provided from community health services where practicable.

To assist agencies with this requirement, the Primary Health Branch is providing half day training and information sessions in each region on use of priority tools and the broader framework in which they sit.

Copies of the updated Community health priority tools can be found on the Community Health website.

Printed copies will shortly be distributed to community health services and will be available at the training and information sessions.
