New diabetes resources for Macedonian and Spanish speaking communities
Date published: 2009-07-09 14:11:50
As part of National Diabetes Week, Diabetes Australia - Vic will host a morning tea to welcome Victoria's Macedonian and Spanish speaking communities to the Cultural Diversity Program.
Australian Institute of Health and Welfare research indicates that people from a Southern or Eastern European background are up to three times more likely than the Australian born population to develop type 2 diabetes. The Cultural Diversity Program aims to reduce diabetes related health inequalities experienced by these communities.
Macedonian and Spanish speaking individuals and communities will now have access to diabetes awareness sessions delivered in their own language by bilingual health educators, written resources and multilingual info-lines where callers can speak to a health professional using an interpreter.
Date: 10.00am to 10.45am, Friday 17 July 2009.
Venue: Diabetes Australia - Vic Boardroom, 570 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne.
RSVP to Ellenie Pond by Friday 10 July 2009.
