Launch of the Victorian Autism State Plan - An Australian first
Date published: 2009-06-04 10:22:11
The development of an Autism State Plan in partnership with Autism Victoria was a Victorian Government election commitment made in November 2006. The shared aim was to build new and better approaches to meet the growing and complex needs of people with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The contributions of approximately 1000 Victorians, gathered through an extensive statewide consultation has ensured that the Plan has been informed by the knowledge of those with direct experience of ASD. Six priority areas are identified in the Plan which will guide implementation.
In the 2009-10 State budget, $8.3 million was allocated to kick-start the Plan's implementation which will occur over a ten year timeframe. The government is now looking forward to working with people with an ASD, their families, other stakeholders and the broader community to implement the Plan¿s priority actions. Stakeholders will continue to be engaged via a Stakeholder Advisory Group during the implementation period.
