Department assists services to organise clinical placements

Date published: 2009-08-21 15:40:03

Health services interested in supporting the creation of an appropriately skilled and flexible workforce into the future will be pleased to learn about the clinical placement request and alert system - a tool developed by the Service and Workforce Planning Branch to support services better organise and coordinate their student placements.

Organisations can now specify their clinical placement vacancies including medical, nursing (both Division 1 and Division 2), dental/oral health, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, podiatry, social work, speech pathology, audiology, dietetics and nutrition, health information management, psychology, and allied health assistance through an online form Manage Vacancies.

Student placement vacancies will be emailed (matched) to education providers who have requested vacancies and/or who have subscribed to be alerted about placement vacancies in the discipline(s) indicated. Should a match occur, education providers are invited to contact health services directly to organise the placement in the normal way.

Similarly, health services can also subscribe to be alerted about clinical placement requests from education providers through another form Placement Request Alerts.

Using the Placement Request Alerts form, health services can indicate the disciplines about which they would like to be notified. Should requests be made in a specified discipline, the health service will be sent an automated email containing contact details of the education provider with the placement request.

Matches are not guaranteed and participation in the system is voluntary, however the department envisages that the new clinical placement request and alert online forms should assist in connecting education providers and health and community services, thus maximising clinical placements opportunities.
