Service Development is responsible for policy and program development, service and strategic planning and planning of capital developments for rural and regional health services.

Service Development: Programs
The programs team is responsible for the development of policy directions for the rural health service system and works with program areas to support development of a range of clinical services to benefit rural residents. The team also administers the Rural Patient Initiative and Rural Maternity Initiative, which are programs to provide non recurrent funding for innovative projects.

Service Development: Planning
The planning team works with rural health services and regional offices to facilitate development of strategic plans for future service delivery, in accordance with policy directions. The team takes a lead role with implementation of policy directions across all program areas, where these pertain to rural services.

Service Development: Capital Planning
The capital planning team works with health services, Capital Management Branch, regional offices and Metropolitan Health and Aged Care Services (MHACS) to plan and facilitate capital developments, facility enhancements and major equipment purchases for all rural health agencies including acute, sub-acute, aged care, community health, dental and alcohol & drug services.
