The Senior Medical Advisor provides in-house medical expertise to the branch and other parts of the Department, liaises with stakeholders, provides support to the rural Directors of Medical Services (DMS), and advises on relevant issues that need a medical perspective, including:
- Medical Workforce and Training
- Clinical Governance
- Innovation in health service delivery.
Specific activities include the release of Credentialling and privileging (defining the scope of clinical practice) for medical practitioners in Victorian rural health services - policy handbook and input into the development of the subsequent statewide policy handbook, provision of a rural and regional health service perspective to several medical workforce and training committees and advisory groups (both within and external to the Department), convening and supporting the rural and regional DMS Group, provision of support and funding for projects aimed at increasing rural DMS capability and establishment of the Rural General Practitioners Procedural Services Advisory Group.
