IntroductionInformation privacy is concerned with empowering individuals to manage, as far as practicable, the collection, use and dissemination of personal information about themselves. It incorporates safeguards for a range of personal information handling activities such as collection, storage, access, transmission, disclosure, use, and disposal. Information privacy became law in Victoria from 1 July 2002. In August 2005, the DHS Executive endorsed a new DHS Privacy Policy, reflecting the requirements of the new Health Records Act 2001 and the Information Privacy Act 2000. This policy supersedes the previous DHS Privacy Policy and the former DHS Privacy Principles.
