Internal Audit Unit

Internal Audit's role is to provide an independent appraisal function to support the department’s governance and oversight responsibilities.

The unit independently reviews and appraises a wide range of department activities and is a vital link in the department's management control system.

Internal auditors conduct independent, impartial audits and reviews to ensure that:

• Internal controls operating within department systems and activities are adequate and effective.
• Relevant legislation, policies, directives, procedures and other authoritative conditions are complied with.
• Assets are safeguarded.
• Resources are used economically.

The unit also undertakes financial investigations where there are concerns about misappropriation or misuse of department funds or other assets.
