Divisions

DHS divisions

Nine divisions share the department's responsibilities for developing strategic priorities, implementing policy, and funding and monitoring service delivery.

Children, Youth & Families

The Children, Youth and Families Division focuses on the health, safety, development, learning and wellbeing of children, young people and families in Victoria.

The division plays a key role in the planning and provision of services to Victorian children and their families. Services include juvenile justice and youth services, and child safety and family services (adoption, child protection, out-of-home care, family violence, sexual assault).

Disability Services Division

The Disability Services Division provides and funds a range of services for people with intellectual, physical, sensory and neurological disabilities.

The division works in partnership with families and carers and with both non-government and government service providers to advance the wellbeing and quality of life of people with disabilities.

Financial and Corporate Services Division

The Financial and Corporate Services Division delivers internal services to the department, such as finance, capital management, administration and information services and supports agencies through the Funded Agency Channel.

Mental Health and Drugs Division

The Mental Health and Drugs Division supports the mental health and wellbeing of the Victorian community through education, prevention and early intervention strategies.

The division provides services including community support programs, treatment and rehabilitation services and residential services

Metropolitan Health and Aged Care Services Division

The Metropolitan Health and Aged Care Services Division is responsible for the full range of health and aged care services in metropolitan Melbourne.

The division funds and monitors the performance of all metropolitan-based public hospitals, and has statewide policy, funding and program responsibility for public hospitals and ambulance services.

Housing and Community Building Division

The Housing and Community Building Division provides housing and support to Victorians most in need. This includes homelessness and crisis support, affordable rental housing and training and employment opportunities for people in public housing.

Operations Division

The Operations Division facilitates a whole-of-department perspective on operational issues and provides a central point of accountability for improving regional performance. The division also has responsibility for statewide coordination following emergencies.

Portfolio Services and Strategic Projects Division

The Portfolio Services and Strategic Projects Division provides a cross-program focus for research, policy analysis and strategic planning to support the Departmental Executive.

The division has central office responsibility for development of strategic priorities and policy direction for the department.

Rural and Regional Health and Aged Care Services Division

The Rural and Regional Health and Aged Care Services Division develops and implements policy and funding for monitoring service delivery across the full range of health and aged care services for people in rural and regional Victoria.

The division has statewide policy and program responsibility for:
  • aged care
  • primary and community health
  • dental health
  • public health.
