Eastern Region
Eastern Metropolitan Region (EMR) is one of eight DHS regions across Victoria. EMR directly provides or funds the full range of DHS services in the region, with the exception of hospital-based services.
This diverse region includes inner suburbs such as Kew and Hawthorn, large outer metropolitan suburbs such as Ringwood and Boronia, and semi-rural townships such as Healesville and Yarra Junction in the Shire of Yarra Ranges.
About 973,000 live in EMR, representing 19.6 per cent of Victoria’s population. At least 18 per cent of the population was born overseas in a non-English speaking country, and 20 per cent speak a language other than English, with Greek, Cantonese, Italian and Mandarin foremost.
Almost 2,500 persons identified as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, which is nine per cent of the statewide Indigenous population.
EMR comprises seven municipalities:
- Boroondara
- Knox
- Manningham
- Maroondah
- Monash
- Whitehorse
- Yarra Ranges
