The role of Human Resources Branch is to ensure the necessary services, processes and policies are in place to enable employees to perform at their best, be safe and satisfied with their work and be appropriately developed. Human Resources is also required to ensure that employees work in an environment which is in accordance with the department's values, the relevant legislative requirements and public employment standards and best practice.

Human Resources Branch is responsible for the leadership of the human resources function for the Department of Human Services. This includes responsibility for human resources systems, policy and practice across the department. The branch is structured to focus on strategic human resources work, the management of organisation-wide human resources services and the provision of expert advice to departmental managers and human resources staff in regions and divisions.

The Human Resources Branch manages a number of organisation-wide projects across the department in the above areas, in collaboration with human resources staff in regions and programs.

The branch works closely with the Industrial Relations Branch (located within Financial and Corporate Services Division) in developing and implementing Enterprise Bargaining Agreements and issue-resolution with the unions covering the department's employees.
