Formal orientation

The Beginning Practice in Child Protection program is a seven week orientation program designed to offer a range of learning opportunities. New practitioners observe other competent practitioners and practice structured activities which assist to develop the knowledge and skills under guidance.

  • Location: in the workplace and centrally at the head office at the Child Protection Training Centre located on Level 2, 50 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.
  • How: conducted with other new practitioners.
  • Study Material: ‘Beginning Practice Learning Guide’ is provided to every new Child Protection Practitioner.
  • Supervisors’ Guide: all supervisors are equipped with a supervisor's guide.
  • Workplace learning: Four weeks of the seven week orientation period are spent undertaking workplace learning.

New practitioners are not alone in the workplace and should ask their supervisor and colleagues to assist them in the beginning practice period of learning.
