DHS home > Multicultural Strategy > Language services > Language services funding Overview of the DHS language services credit line and direct fundingImportant changes to DHS language services from 1 October 2006 The Department of Human Services is developing a more efficient and simple language services system. The most significant components of the reform includes the tendering of the department’s language services credit line and direct funding for language services to agencies that are large-scale users. Direct funding to large-scale users of language servicesFrom 1 October 2006, a number of DHS funded organisations that are large-scale users of language services will receive a direct allocation to coordinate their own language services provision across program areas. Organisations that will receive direct funding will be contacted by the department. Download the list of DHS funded agencies that will receive direct funding for the provision of language services from the 'Downloads and Links' menu.Allocation will be delivered through usual DHS funding mechanisms. Agencies that receive direct funding will be required to report to DHS quarterly. The contact point for submission of reports is included in the list of direct funded agencies. Access the Language Services Reporting Pro-forma in the "Downloads and Links' menu. DHS Language Services Credit LineFrom 1 October 2006 ONCALL Interpreting and Translating Services will provide services of the DHS Language Services Credit Line. As with the current service, bookings can be taken up to 30 days in advance, therefore:

The new contract arrangements for the credit line will include clear service delivery quality standards, electronic and telephone bookings, three-way telephone interpreting capacity, a strong emphasis on rural coverage and training on human services related topis for interpreters. To assist eligible agencies the department has developed information and guidelines for the DHS language service credit line. These guidelines have been updated to reflect the current changes.
