Premier John Brumby has launched the National Centre for Farmer
Health at Western District Health Service in Hamilton.
The centre is a partnership between WDHS and Deakin University.
It is a landmark in Victoria’s agricultural history—the first
centre of its kind in the southern hemisphere with the specific aim of
providing information and post graduate education, advocacy and leadership
within the community and health service delivery.
Its mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of Australian
farmers, farm employees and their families through leadership, advocacy,
service delivery, research and education.
The National Centre’s five core activities are:
• Professional
training and education;
• Applied
research and development;
• An
IT information hub;
• Agri-Safe
programs;
• Sustainable
Farm Families.
About 100 people from a diverse range of professions including health,
education, veterinary, finance, agronomy, politics, research and farming
attended the launch.
The centre’s inaugural Opening
the gates on farmer health symposium was
held after the launch.
