The $25 million redevelopment of Dandenong Hospital’s
emergency department has begun.
Health Minister Daniel Andrews
turned the first sod on the site of the new facility and declared it would
provide first-class services for tens of thousands of patients every year.
‘More than 47,600 patients
attended the Dandenong Hospital’s emergency department last year, making it one
of the busiest in the state.
‘The new and expanded facility
will increase the number of patient treatment spaces in the emergency department
from 35 to 55.
‘It will provide separate
facilities for adults and children seeking treatment and it will improve the
overall amenity for patients with more single rooms, making hospital visits
more comfortable for everyone.
‘This redevelopment will provide
a major boost to families in the south-east growth corridor and is a vital part
of the Government’s commitment to the ongoing improvement of health services
for all Victorians.’
The $25 million emergency department upgrade is part of a staged $153
million redevelopment of the hospital funded by the Victorian Government.
