Rosebud aged care service
residents have a ball

Rosebud Residential Aged Care
Services residents Adriana and Neil Stewart were made up and masked for the
Masquerade Ball. |
Masks, music and mystery made it a night to remember for residents at
the Rosebud Residential Aged Care Services (RRACS) Masquerade Ball.
Residents from Peninsula Health’s Michael Court Hostel and Carinya Residential
Aged Care Unit also joined the fun.
RRACS Manager Monique Cook said the ball gave residents and their
families the chance to socialise and relax outside of their normal environment.
‘The ball was a fun chance to dress up, have a laugh and meet staff and
other family members.
‘We offer activities and events, such as the ball, for residents to do
something different and enjoy themselves.
‘Many just enjoy listening and singing along to the music, others love
getting dressed up and dancing.’
Nurse Unit Manager Kirsteen Mackenzie worked behind the scenes to
coordinate the event.
She and other staff helped residents make and decorate their own masks
and find costumes.
‘Everyone got in the mood—there was Zorro, a bride, a few fairy
princesses and some sharp looking gents in tuxes.
‘It was quite touching—staff assisted one resident, Eric, who
requires a wheelchair, dance with his wife, Elizabeth.
‘It was their first dance together in 10 years and certainly brought a
tear to a few eyes.’
The Masquerade Ball is one of the many events for residents of Peninsula
Health’s aged care facilities.
Last year, more than 200 residents and families enjoyed live music
and dance displays at the Jazz by the Sea festival in Rosebud.
