Minister for Children Sherryl Garbutt has turned
the sod to mark the start of work on a new $365,000 children's centre
in Dimboola.
Ms Garbutt said the
Government contributed $250,000 to expand the existing kindergarten
in Hindmarsh Street.
'The Dimboola Children's
Centre will extend the existing kindergarten to accommodate long
day care, maternal and child health, family day care co-ordination,
family support and parenting services and allied health services.
'Wimmera Uniting
Care will deliver a range of service from the centre.'
The funding for the
new centre is part of the State Government's $16 million, three-year
program establish up to 60 children's centres across Victoria.
'The Dimboola Children's
Centre was a great example of local government, communities and
the State Government working together to give children the best
start in life,' Ms Garbutt said.
Hindmarsh Shire Council
is contributing $30,000 to the project, the Commonwealth $75,000
and the Dimboola Kindergarten Committee $10,000.
'Families will no
longer travel to a range of locations to get the services they
need.'
The expanded centre
is expected to open early next year.
