New state-of-the-art gynaecological examination couches have been
designed and bought especially for the Royal Womens Hospital
thanks to the Victorian Lady Bowlers Association (VLBA).
The VLBA nominated the Womens as its charity in 2000/2001
and raised $107,500.
The funds have been used to design and buy 18 couches for consulting
rooms in the hospital.
This is a wonderful initiative and one which will make a
real difference to improving the comfort for women and will allow
us to provide better quality of care, said Outpatients
Manager at The Royal Womens Veronica Love.
Importantly, they allow older women, heavily pregnant women
and those in wheelchairs to transfer themselves and avoid being
lifted by machine or staff, she said.
The new style couches were specially designed by hospital nursing
staff, in partnership with engineers from ABCO Health Care, and
were built in Victoria.
The Royal Womens Hospital looks after the health needs of
women of all ages and cultures and newborn babies.
Around 150,000 outpatient appointments are made every year for
gynecological and ante-natal care, family planning, menopause and
well-womens clinics.
Every year, the Victorian Ladies Bowling Association nominates
a charity project and each of the 520 member clubs and 26,000 members
work raise funds through charity days.
In the past decade they have raised more than two million dollars.
