INTRAIN scholarship invitation

The Department of Human Services is inviting applications for INTRAIN (Indigenous Training and Recruitment Initiatives) Scholarships for 2002.

INTRAIN is a key initiative of the Department of Human Services’ Koorie Services Improvement Strategy (KSIS) and part of the Victorian Government’s response to the Report of the National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from their Families.

To be eligible for an INTRAIN scholarship, applicants must be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, be accepted as such by the community in which he/she lives or has lived and not previously have received an INTRAIN scholarship.

The scholarships will help eligible Aboriginal people study full time to:

• Complete up to the last one or two years of an undergraduate course;

• Complete the last one or two years of a postgraduate course;

• Undertake the two-year Diploma of Community Services.

Eligible people in all fields of study are encouraged to apply but priority will be given in 2002 to applicants undertaking study in health and related fields, medicine, nursing, community development and management, public policy and administration, social work or housing services (town planning, art/research, accounting, architecture).

Applications are due by January 11, 2002.
