Awards recognise innovative services

Peninsula Hospice Service Director Judie Hind-Roff receives a Grief Week award from Lynne Landy at the inaugural Grief Week Awards ceremony.

Winners of the National Association for Loss and Grief (Victoria) inaugural Grief Week Awards reflected the diverse array of work by people across the State in providing help for those experiencing grief.

Lynne Landy, wife of the Governor of Victoria, presented the awards.

Griefline received the Volunteer Community Support Award for its Statewide telephone support service.

An initiative of Bethlehem Hospital, the service recruits and trains volunteers and has been operating for 12 years.

Peninsula Hospice Service’s Regional Organisation Award was presented for its range of innovative and integrated programs, including the Chatty Cats support group for young people.

Peninsula Hospice Service, in Frankston, services the Mornington Peninsula.

St Vincent’s Hospital’s Outreach Grief Services excellence in education, service provision, media and innovation earned it the Statewide Organisation Award.

Outreach Grief Services is a leader in the area of innovative support groups for children, young people, partners and the suicide bereaved.

The Individual Merit award was presented to Nicole Fisher of Outreach Grief Services for volunteer services to promoting awareness and understanding of loss and grief and providing a role model for young people in the community.

Outreach Grief Services’ I Will Remember These Things Forever book won the Children’s and Young People Experimental Book category award.

I Will Remember These Things Forever is a compilation of poetry and pictures arising from the grief experiences of children aged four to 14.
