Concert marks 10th birthday

Mildura’s older citizens were treated to a free performance from the Victorian Concert Orchestra (VCO) to celebrate the 10th birthday of the Victorian Seniors Card Program.

The VCO headed to Mildura for the first time for two special concerts at the Mildura Arts Centre taking on the road its world-class performance standards and winning blend of popular and classical music.

Housing and Aged Care Minister Bronwyn Pike said the free concerts for Seniors Card holders celebrated the tremendous success of the Victorian Seniors Card Program, which provides Victorians over the age of 60 with discounts and special offers from a whole range of businesses.

‘This program was launched in 1991 with just 92 business supporters. Now there are 6,000 throughout the State, including more than 100 in Mildura.

‘I would like to thank local businesses for their continued support of the Seniors Card Program and their commitment to caring for older members of their community.

‘The Government will work with Victorian businesses to expand the Seniors Card program and provide greater support for our senior citizens.’

Concert highlights were the performances of soprano Janet Healy, baritone Ian Cousins and tenor Kun Xie,’ Ms Pike said.
