SHIP sets sail with Mitcham partnership

The construction of five one-bedroom units for people with disabilities, funded through the Office of Housing’s Social Housing Innovations Project, has begun in Mitcham.

The Witt Street units are being built in partnership with Supported Housing Ltd, an established supported accommodation provider.

The project reflects the needs of Supported Housing and Nadrasca Inc, a community-based disability service provider with 33 years experience in the Mitcham/Nunawading area.

The project is worth $695,000 in total—$495,000 contributed through the SHIP program to the construction of the units and Supported Housing Limited providing equity of $200,000 through land contributed by Nadrasca.

The units, to be constructed by Dalton Builders of Glen Waverley, are due for completion by June 2003.

‘We have worked closely with Supported Housing to get this project off the ground,’ said Office of Housing’s SHIP program manager Erika Skinner.

‘We look forward to their completion and delivery of a locally-based solution for people in this community.’
