New housing for Braybrook
A $1.6 million housing development in Hargreaves Crescent, Braybrook,
will provide modern, new and comfortable homes for 10 local families.
The project involves the construction of six two-bedroom and four
three-bedroom homes with building work beginning immediately.
Surrounding land formerly occupied by public housing will be developed
for privately-owned housing.
The site is part of the Governments highly successful
Neighbourhood Renewal initiative in the area and will complement
the good results being achieved through this project, Housing
Minister Candy Broad said.
Neighbourhood Renewal is about the Government working
with residents, support agencies and local councils to create resilient,
safer, more cohesive communities.
The area is ideal for affordable housing, because its
close to transport and the local shops and close to job opportunities
as well.
It is part of the Governments commitment to quality
affordable housing in the Braybrook and Maidstone area.
Ms Broad also announced $3 million available for the construction
of new apartments for single people on low incomes in Maidstone.
The Government recognises single people on low incomes are
struggling to get into the housing marketthats why we
are investing in more accommodation for single people in good locations
like Maidstone.
The new Maidstone apartments will provide a home for up to 20 people
on low incomes and will be managed by Yarra Community Housing, a
not-for-profit organisation with a long history in managing community
housing.
Prospective tenants will have the opportunity to contribute to
the design of the new apartments while a community consultation
process gets underway.
