March 2004
Telephone classes to link writers
Hawthorn Community Education Centre is inviting participants for
its 2004 Telelink Writing Classes.
The next course, which includes fortnightly 45-minute telephone-linked
group discussions, starts in April.
Up to eight writers can enrol for each coursethere are five
courses a year.
The group conversations allow students to discuss their thoughts
about writing, receive instruction from the experienced tutor, read
work aloud to fellow writers and listen to feedback.
Students receive course material before the telelinks.
Hawthorn Community Education Centres Telelink Writing
Classes and Life Writing Correspondence Courses are designed
for people who are isolated through age or illness.
Participants in the Life Writing Correspondence Courses
are linked with a volunteer encourager/tutor.
The courses offer a range of imaginative topics and writers are
encouraged to send one assignment a month to encourager/tutors who
read their work and offer carefully-worded comments that may include
hints on how to make the writing more effective.
Stories and poems are published in the annual Recollections
compilation.
The Archival Section of the State Library includes the Recollections
collection.
