Robin Collins, the face of the 2004 Victorian Seniors Festival, featured on the front of the festival program, has been dancing her way through life for 50 years.

More than 1,000 activities will be staged across Victoria to ensure the 2004 Seniors Festival is the best ever.

Launching the festival program Aged Care Minister Gavin Jennings said the festival—from March 14 until March 21—celebrated the achievements of older people and their important contribution to the Victorian community.

‘Seniors can enjoy myriad activities—from a performance by the Victorian Concert Orchestra to a public debate on Humour in Health hosted by Rod Quantock and walking activities with AFL legend Tom Hafey.

‘A highlight of the festival will be a free intergenerational event—ANZ Generations A–Z Concert at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Saturday, March 20.

‘The Seniors Festival has something for everyone—so grab a program and plan for a great time.

Mr Jennings said the festival program was available free at Coles supermarkets and Information Victoria.

‘The festival encourages the 830,000 seniors across the State to get out and get active to ensure a better quality of life.

‘We have provided $156,135 in grants to assist local councils to stage fun and active events to encourage seniors to get fit.

‘We are also encouraging people of all ages to spend time together doing physical activity and building stronger relationships.’

As part of the Seniors Festival, the Government will provide free public transport for Seniors Card holders and free or discounted entry at many of the State’s major tourist and cultural attractions.

Seniors Card holders will be able to travel free in metropolitan areas for the entire eight days of the festival and free on country rail and coach services over five days—March 13, March 16–18 and March 20.

Booking is required for some country services.
