Seminar promotes diet against disease
Menzies School of Health Research Director Professor Kerin ODea
is an advocate of a Mediterranean diet as a means of heart disease
prevention.
Professor ODea will present the latest research findings
on the influence of this type of diet on the risk factors associated
with heart disease at the Autumn Chris Silagy Seminar on April 1.
The free one-hour seminar is hosted by the Monash Institute of
Health Services Research in honour of its Foundation Director, the
late Professor Chris Silagy.
The seminar targets clinicians, policy-makers, media and consumers
with an interest in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular
disease.
Professor ODeas Diet versus Drugs for the Secondary
Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease presentation will highlight
the effect of the Mediterranean diet on inflammation, oxidation
and arrhythmia and its potential to reduce mortality without side-effects.
Professor ODea has more than 25 years experience in
researching the impact of diet and lifestyle on the prevention and
treatment of non-communicable diseases such as type two diabetes,
obesity and cardiovascular disease.
