Korumburra hospital upgrade

Gippsland Southern Health Service’s Korumburra hospital will undergo a major redevelopment.

Announcing the redevelopment, Aged Care Minister Bronwyn Pike said the new facility will provide 20 high-care nursing home beds and 10 flexible-use hospital beds.

‘Government funding of $5.4 million will provide Korumburra with a modern, efficient 30-bed hospital and aged care facility.’

Ms Pike said the existing hospital and nursing home were separate buildings and both needed improvement.

‘Both facilities will gain substantial staffing and operating efficiencies as a result of this funding.

‘The redevelopment will co-locate aged and acute hospital services in the one building, resulting in a range of benefits for residents, patients and staff.’

Ms Pike said the improved facility would provide general medical and surgical services, 24-hour emergency stabilisation, X-rays, ambulatory care and a range of rehabilitation, aged, primary care and community services.

‘The Government’s multi-million dollar investment confirms the sustainability of Gippsland Southern Health Service’s Korumburra campus as a major provider of health and aged care services well into the future,’ she said.

Traralgon building contractor Ro and Jo van Poppel successfully tendered for the redevelopment, which includes around $800,000 for fire safety upgrades.
