Kids get a kick from footy clinic

Four-year-old Ali demonstrates his almost perfect left-foot kicking skills at the Outreach Victoria football clinic at the Banksia Gardens public housing estate in Broadmeadows.

Richmond footballers Paul Broderick, Ben Haynes and Royce Vardy were a great hit—even with the supporters of other AFL clubs—at a footy clinic at the Banksia Gardens public housing estate in Broadmeadows.

About 50 children from the estate, ranging in ages from two to 14, received plenty of encouragement and skills tuition during the clinic, part of the community development program coordinated by Outreach Victoria for Broadmeadows and Westmeadows estate residents.

The youngsters practised kicking, marking, handball and picking up the ball on the run.

While many showed promise, especially as push-ups were the penalty for a dropped mark, several seemed more at home with a round ball.

The Richmond players swapped autographs for promises to barrack for the Tigers in season 2001.
