Ambo medal for chopper service founder

Australia Day Ambulance Service Medal winner Phil Hogan of Air Ambulance Victoria.

Founder of the Victorian ambulance helicopter rescue and aeromedical service Philip Hogan has won the inaugural Australia Day Ambulance Service Medal.

The State’s helicopter ambulance service began operation from Essendon in 1986 and is now one of the busiest aeromedical helicopter services in Australia.

Ambulance Emergency and Aeromedical Operations General Manager Greg Sassella praised Mr Hogan’s contribution to the establishment of the service.

‘His meticulous attention to detail, dedication and commitment to the highest quality patient care and safety standards has created an aeromedical helicopter service of world standing and saved many hundreds of lives as a result.

‘Mr Hogan’s skills and knowledge in this area are the result of many years dedicated to research of aeromedical clinical patient care and safety and have ensured Air Ambulance Victoria patients are in the absolute safest hands in what is a high-risk field.

‘His expertise is sought out by Australian and overseas organisations seeking to establish aeromedical services,’ Mr Sassella said.

Mr Hogan is currently Air Ambulance Victoria Systems Support Manager.
