Drug Week open day for Moreland
Hall
UnitingCare’s alcohol and other
drug treatment agency Moreland Hall will hold an open day on Wednesday, June
20.
The open day—from 11
a.m.to 7.30 p.m. at 26 Jessie Street, Moreland—is part of Drug Action
Week between June 18 and 22.
Several open day activities have
been specifically-designed to meet the needs of students aged 14–17,
secondary school teachers and members of the general community, including:
• Youth
education sessions focusing on potential risks associated with drugs and
strategies to help respond effectively;
• Information
displays on Moreland Hall services and resources.
• A
6 p.m. general drug education session open to parents and their children as
well as the general community, addressing issues such as attitudes to drug use,
current government policy, drug classifications, some harms associated with
drug use and what alcohol and other drug treatment services offer.
Moreland Hall has been operating
for more than 35 years, providing a range of alcohol and other drug services in
the northern region.
Drug Action Week is an
initiative of the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia.
It aims to raise public
awareness of alcohol and other drug issues, while promoting the efforts of
people who work to reduce drug-related harm.
