The Alfred Hospital Head of
Surgery and Neurosurgery Professor Jeffrey Rosenfeld has been promoted to the
rank of brigadier—making him the most senior health services officer in
the Army Reserve.
Appointed as Director General of
Defence Health Reserves (Army) and Assistant Surgeon General, ADF (Army),
Professor Rosenfeld has responsibility for all health reservists in the army.
‘I am very excited about the
appointment—it’s a great opportunity to further develop my military
interests and serve the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and Australia at a
national level,’ Professor Rosenfeld said.
‘The appointment carries great
responsibility and is a great honour.’
As Assistant Surgeon General,
Professor Rosenfeld will also represent the ADF and health services in the
wider community and take a more active role in policy development and
recruitment and retention issues for the health services.
Professor Rosenfeld recently
returned from the United States where he was invited to deliver a paper on
battlefield surgery to military and civilian trauma surgeons at the Uniformed
Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.
The university trains medical
personnel for the U.S. Military.
‘The paper was on brain injury
and detailed the sorts of injuries incurred in battle and how we manage those
injuries,’ Professor Rosenfeld said.
