Housing Minister Richard Wynne
has announced a major redevelopment in Bacchus Marsh as part of a local $5.3
million boost to public housing.
The redevelopment of the Young
Street public housing estate will see the construction of at least 20 new,
environmentally-friendly one and two-bedroom dwellings.
In addition, four two-bedroom
dwellings are being built in Bacchus Marsh for local lower-income people, due
for handover to tenants next year.
The site at Young Street currently
consists of 20 one-bedroom dwellings in two-storey walk-up buildings, built in
1975.
The buildings are ageing and
under-used due to their size and condition.
During 2007, tenants will be
consulted about their relocation options—at no cost to tenants.
The Office of Housing will work
with the Moorabool Shire Council to seek planning approval for the
redevelopment.
Mr Wynne said the announcement
would ensure people living in Bacchus Marsh had access to
affordable and comfortable accommodation.
