Attorney-General Rob Hulls has marked the centenary
of the Children's Court of Victoria by launching an exhibition of
its history attended by Minister for Children Sherryl Garbutt and
departing President Judge Jennifer Coate.
After 10 years as
judicial head of the Children's Court, Judge Coate retired as
President on April 28 to take up full-time duties as a judge of
the County Court.
Former magistrate
Paul Grant was sworn in as a County Court judge on April 26 and
began his five-year term as President of the Children's Court
on May 1.
Judge Grant served
as a magistrate from 1988, as Deputy Chief Magistrate from 2003
and as Supervising Magistrate for Koorie Courts from 2004.
The Children's Court
of Victoria exhibition moved from Melbourne to the Bendigo Library
during Law Week before returning to Melbourne for the remainder
of the year.
