Pam Power of Long Gully in Bendigo received the 2004 Frances Penington
Community Award during Housing Week.
Thirty-eight people from across Victorian were nominated for the
award, named in honour of the first female commissioner of Victorias
Housing Commission.
Minister for Housing Candy Broad said Ms Power had been honoured
for her commitment, courage and leadership in the Long Gully community
and, in particular, her drive to make conditions better for local
children.
Pam has shown great determination in encouraging positive
behaviours in adolescent boys and positive parenting in the community,
Ms Broad said.
Pam also played a significant role in the establishment of
the Long Gully Legends under-12 football team, a Shared Action
community development project run by St Lukes Anglicare.
She has been a grass roots community volunteer, playing a
key role in communicating information to her fellow residents.
Ms Broad noted the high quality of nominees for this years
Frances Penington Award.
It wasnt easy for the judges to choose a winner, as
each of the nominees has made a very valuable contribution to the
community, she said.
