New home for people with acquired brain injury
The first residents have moved into St Martins Court supported
accommodation in Beaumaris for people with an acquired brain injury.
The project is a partnership of Government and non-government agencies
to provide community housing options for people with a disability
who have high support needs.
This project provides national leadership in how to address
the issues of young people in nursing homes, said Supported
Housing Limited (SHL) Chief Executive Officer Joseph Connellan.
It is also a tangible expression of both joined up Government
and true partnerships between Government and community agencies.
SHL, a leading disability community housing agency, bought the
Beaumaris property with funding from the Office of Housing.
The Department of Human Services Southern Region and the
TAC provided development funding.
The project was designed for people receiving Department or TAC
funding and who require low-medium levels of support and assistance
within an independent living environment.
SHL is working with Australian Home Care Services, a subsidiary
of the MS Society, to provide on-site support.
Recurrent support is also provided by several Department Regions,
Southern Healths Slow to Recover program, the Brain Foundation,
TAC, MS Society and the Office of Housing.
