Family event at childrens farm
A Possum Hunt puppet show will be among highlights for children
at a Family Day at Collingwood Childrens Farm on Thursday,
July 11 as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations.
The puppet show will be performed by Yarn Strong Sista, based on
a story told by Aboriginal Elder Aunty Iris Lovett-Gardiner.
The Collingwood Childrens Farm is seven hectares of paddocks,
gardens and rustic buildings tucked away on a bend in the Yarra
River opposite the Yarra Bend Park.
The NAIDOC Week Family Day is organised by the Aboriginal Housing
Board of Victoria.
Other activities will include emu feather craft, damper making,
boomerang painting and throwing, horse and hay rides and face painting.
There will be a visit by indigenous AFL footballers who will help
children sharpen their ball skills during an afternoon session.
This will be the fourth Family Dayit has gained popularity
each year with about 400 people taking part in the event last year.
