Water works at Bendigo Health

Bendigo Health’s Executive Director of Buildings and Infrastructure David Walker and mechanical engineer Greg Ellis.

Bendigo Health will save around 60 megalitres of drinking water annually with the switch-on of a recycled water pipeline.

The pipeline runs from the Epson-Spring Gully pipeline, via the Tom Flood Sports Centre to Bendigo Health’s Anne Caudle Centre campus, then through the service tunnel that runs under Arnold Street to the hospital campus.

Executive director of buildings and infrastructure David Walker said the recycled water would initially be used to flush toilets, water the gardens and be used in Bendigo Health’s commercial laundry in Mercy Street.

‘We estimate, based on current usage, drinking water will be freed up to service around 200 households in the region,’ Mr Walker said.

‘We are always looking for ways to use our natural resources more efficiently and are currently exploring other ways in which this recycled water can also be used throughout the organisation.’

The works have been made possible through grant money received from the Smart Water Fund and Community Water Grants and work has been conducted by local contractors and Bendigo Health engineering staff.
