Week focuses on Yooralla
A week of special events and activities allowed Yooralla to reach
new audiences, educate them about its work and generate funds.
Why Yooralla Week? focused on the ways services could help
people remain active and able within their communities even with
an ongoing disability.
Events included a Valentines Day Kiss for a Cause
as part of the St Kilda Festival and a golf challenge at Cape Schanks
National Golf Club.
More than 1,400 couples gathered on St Kilda Beach to try and break
the most couples kissing simultaneously world record.
Although well short of the record5,327 couplesthe event
raised money and attracted publicity for Yooralla.
The four-man/four-woman Ambrose golf event drew 12 teams and associated
sponsorship.
Why Yooralla Week? aimed to raise awareness of the fact
that anyone can acquire a disability at any time.
Yooralla provides wide-ranging disability services in areas of
therapy, specialised accommodation, respite, assistance in and out-of-home,
adaptive aids and equipment, training and employment and recreation.
More than 1,000 specialised staff across Victoria cater to the
needs of around 30,000 people with disabilities annually.
This includes children and adults born with disabilities, as well
as those who have acquired them due to accidents, health problems
and age.
