Medico-legal head to head
Monash Universitys best legal and medical minds will discuss
the proposition that litigation is causing the death of medical
practice during the 2005 Great Law Week debate.
Guest moderator for the medico-legal debate presented by Monash
Law School and the Law Institute of Victoria will be Monash alumnus
Dr Sally Cockburn aka Dr Feelgood.
Monash will pit the affirmative team of medical expertsHealth
Services Commissioner Beth Wilson, former Southern Health Service
Chief Medical Officer Dr Syd Allen and current Monash medicine/law
student Dev Kevat against legal eagles David Galbally QC, Simon
K. Wilson QC and recent Monash law/economics graduate and best speaker
in the world at the 2005 University Debating Championships Kylie
Lane.
The five-member judging panel will include the Dean of Monash Law
Professor Arie Freiberg, Law Institute of Victoria President Victoria
Strong, GP and former chair of the Department of General Practice
at Monash Professor John Murtagh, Deputy Commissioner of Police
Bob Falconer and president of the Monash Association of Debaters
Jake Clifton
The debate will be held on Wednesday, May 18, at 5.30p.m. at the
Clemenger Auditorium, National Gallery of Victoria.
