Forensic expert leads lecture team
Monash Universitys dean of medicine, nursing and health sciences
Professor Ed Byrne has announced the Deans and Alumni Lecture
series for 2005.
This years series of public lectures, incorporating the second
annual Rod Andrew Oration and the Great Alumni Debate, also introduces
three of the facultys newly-appointed and highly-regarded
professorial staff.
Professor Byrne said the Rod Andrew Oration would be given by one
of Monash Medicines most respected academicsProfessor
of Forensic Medicine and Director of the Victorian Institute of
Forensic Medicine Stephen Cordner.
Professor Cordners work in the arena of forensic medicine
and human rights has seen him take tours of duty in East Timor and
Kosovo, as well as a year consulting to the International Committee
of the Red Cross in Geneva.
Professor Cordner will share some of his experiences when he delivers
his Forensic Pathology and Human Remains following War or Internal
Violence: From Katyn Forest to Iraq lecture on May 10, at Monash
Universitys South 1 lecture theatre, Clayton campus.
Anyone interested in this area of medical science is invited to
attend.
Also in this current series of lectures, medical training will
come under the spotlight when media personality and Monash medical
alumnus Dr Sally Cockburn moderates the Great Alumni Debate on Medical
Education Today: What are the priorities and are we meeting them?
Further lectures will be given by Professors Harald Schmidt (pharmacology),
Chris Goddard (social work) and Iain Clarke (physiology).
Lecture dates are Professor Stephen Cordner May 10, Professor Iain
Clarke July 12, Great Alumni Debate August 9, Professor Harald Schmidt
September 13 and Professor Chris Goddard, November 8.
All lectures will be held at Monashs Clayton campus, starting
at 6:30p.m.
