New aim, new name

Melbourne Health has created a new focus and name for one of its
key sites as part of its Strategic Plan 20052010 to meet the
challenges of evolving community health needs.
The Melbourne Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service in Parkville
has been renamed the Royal Melbourne HospitalRoyal Park Campus.
An increasing emphasis at the Royal Park Campus will be placed
on ambulatory carecare not requiring an overnight hospital
stayadvances in clinical practice, the changing health needs
of an ageing population and community expectations are resulting
in fewer and shorter hospital stays and a greater demand for care
in the home.
The Royal Melbourne HospitalRoyal Park Campus is located
in Poplar Road, Parkville, near the Melbourne Zoo and 10 minutes
from the Royal Melbourne HospitalCity Campus.
It has close links with the University of Melbourne, La Trobe University,
the National Ageing Research Institute, on the same site and Kangan
Batman TAFE.
It is located within the famous Parkville Precinct that includes
the Royal Melbourne HospitalCity Campus, Walter and Eliza
Hall Institute, the University of Melbourne, Melbourne Private and
Bio 21, a hub of medical and biotechnology research, education and
development, and medical services delivery in Victoria.
The Royal Park Campus will continue to work closely with the Royal
Melbourne HospitalCity Campus in Grattan Street to provide
cohesive, integrated medical services for patients and clients.
Acute health care services will continue to be delivered from the
Royal Melbourne HospitalCity Campus.
