South coast councils have completed a major Municipal Public Health
Plan project.
Municipal Scanning for the Municipal Public Health Plans for
Bass Coast Shire Council and South Gippsland Shire Council
is the key outcome of the Healthier Communities: From Town, to
Country, to Coast project.
It was funded by the Department of Human Services under the Good
Practice Program begun in mid 2003.
Bass Coast and South Gippsland Shire Councils are member agencies
of the South Coast Health Service Consortium (PCP).
The project was managed by a committee of representatives from
Bass Coast and South Gippsland Shire Councils, Bass Coast Community
Health Service, South Gippsland Division of General Practice and
the South Coast Health Service Consortium (PCP).
The report has highlighted a set of strategic opportunities for
both shires.
A key focus of the report is on integrated policy, planning and
advocacy plus a set of opportunities under the Environments for
Health Framework.
Both Shires are now reviewing the report as part of their internal
planning processes leading to the development of their individual
Municipal Public Health Plans.
Coordinator of the South Coast Health Service Consortium (PCP)
Kirk Warren praised the report as providing an excellent base for
both councils to complete their statutory requirements and providing
the PCP with a framework to progress towards integrated planning
for the south coast.
We are well placed to meet the challenges of the Primary
Care Partnerships strategic directions 20042006 report to
enhance the planning role of our PCP.
Copies of the report are available from the South
Coast Health Services Consortium on 5674 3105 or email Southcoast-pcp@sggp.com.au.
