Golden oldies a hit during Seniors Week

Glenda Walsh and Wayne Comley whoop it up during the Fullatone Radio Show at the Windsor Hotel during Senior Citizens Week.

Older people from all over Victoria took part in more than 1,000 events during Senior Citizens Week.

Highlights of the week included a Seniors Theatre Week and Film Festival and the Melbourne Park Masters Tennis Tournament.

More than 100 stalls representing government, business and community groups filled the Royal Exhibition Buildings in Carlton for the two-day Jampacked 2001 Retirement Living Expo and Handcraft Fair.

Seniors flocked to the Windsor Hotel to see the Flappers to Flares fashion show, spanning six decades of design.

The collection ranged from high fashion to home-made evening, day and casual wear with appropriate accessories.

Glenda Walsh and her band Fakin’ Whoopee recreated a bygone era with the Fullatone Radio Show in a live studio set-up also at the Windsor.

Hundreds of seniors enjoyed the jingles, gags and memorable music from days when radio reigned supreme.

Garden and nature lovers took advantage of Senior Citizens Week with tours of the National Trust Gardens of Geelong, Werribee Park and Ripponlea, where Australia’s favourite gardener Kevin Heinze hosted a literary lunch.
